Login manager is a set of programs and files that allows different users to be created for one AROS installation with their own preferences and settings. Specifically, each user can have: - Their own login name and login picture. - Their own settings for all preferences stored in ENVARC:, including standard prefs settings, theme and def_icons (e.g. each user could set theirpreferred tools in their def_icons). - Their own user-startup. - Their own WBStartup. - Their own 'left out' icons. - Their own set of assigns for MyWorkspace, Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos and Downloads. - Their own icons for the above based on their login picture. - User settings can be added, copied, edited and deleted via the login management database. Aside from the login manager files, the following are alsorequired: - AROS release of 5.2.11 or older (required for fixed support for custom screens). - Installed copy of MUIBase (for the login manager database). - Copy of dt2thumb in c: (to create icons from user's login picture). - Copy, IconX and Makedir commands in c: - An installed copy of AROSPDF to read the Instructions.PDF file. All of the above are available in recent nightlys or AROS distributions (IcAROS/Broadway) or in the AROS-archives. Warning: by its nature, the login program needs to be used early in the booting sequence, and hence requires some editing and reordering of the startup-sequence. Also, login management requires manipulating env-archive, user-startup and WBStartup folders/files. Hence it is strongly advised to: (1) Read the documentation thoroughly. (2) Before installing login manager files, make a full backup of sys: (3) Have an emergency bootup CD/DVD/usb-drive in case something goes wrong! This login manager has been tested on an original AresOne under Noveau graphics and a PicoITXunder VESA, but as this is the first release there's no guarantee it will work as expected under all conditions. Updating from v1.0 to v1.1 - please read the included ReadMe_v1.1. Still to do: - Allow users to have their own settings for programs that do not store their preferences in envarc: (e.g. OWB). - Add a program to report any errors generated by the login program after Wanderer has been launched. - Add help-bubble text to the database gadgets. Release notes. Usual stuff... These programs can be freely distributed provided they are kept together with this readme. They are not to be distributed for profit. If anyone wishes to modify the code that's fine so long as reference is made to my original work.
